Businesses in every industry need savvy professionals who understand consumers and the marketplace and who can promote their products and services.

At the Dicke College of Business Administration, you’ll receive a high-impact education in marketing that will prepare you to jump in and be successful in a wide variety of marketing careers. You can prepare for a specialized field by choosing a concentration such as marketing analytics, integrated marketing communication and customer relationship management.

Networking is key in business, and it’s key here. Our small class sizes mean you will get to know your business professors, and they will get to know you. In fact, you’ll be assigned a faculty advisor who will mentor you from day one until graduation. You’ll also interact with and learn from local business leaders, entrepreneurs and 51�� alumni who’ve forged amazing careers in many fields. All of these people will open doors for you.

Upon graduation, you’ll be ready for whatever the future holds, whether it’s conducting focus groups, researching market segments, designing ad campaigns or planning product launches.

Your marketing education will blend rigorous coursework with real-world learning. You’ll work with actual companies to solve problems and devise marketing strategies. You’ll hone skills in leadership, teamwork, creativity and entrepreneurship. You’ll be able to customize your course of study around the area of marketing that interests you the most – like international marketing, supply chain management, retailing or promotions.

MARKETING COURSES, CURRICULUM & PROGRAM RESOURCES

You’ll need 120 credit hours to earn a BSBA with a major in marketing. This includes 24 credit hours of electives useful for customizing your program or adding a minor that will make you more attractive to potential employers.

Here are some courses you'll take as a marketing major: Marketing Research, Consumer Behavior, Product Development, Supply Chain Management, Electives such as Social Media Principles, Public Relations or Business Analytics.

American Marketing Association

Imagine matching your wits against marketing students from universities across the country – and winning! 51��’s American Marketing Association (AMA) chapter has a history of garnering top honors at national competitions like the AMA Business Simulation Competition. As an AMA member, you’ll also meet marketing professionals, attend conferences, have access to career resources, and participate in fun events like cookouts, bowling nights and company visits.

Internships

Get a high-impact head start.

Your internship gives you a chance to work in the field and build your résumé. We set you up with an internship that matches your interests and career aspirations. While many students intern in Ohio, others choose to complete an internship in another state or even internationally. Most internships are paid, and many result in offers of full-time employment upon graduation.

Through participation in one or more of these groups, you’ll have the opportunity to network, be a leader, make lifelong friends, gain knowledge about your chosen profession, volunteer, travel to regional and national conferences, and more. An honor society to promote the advancement of excellence in the field of marketing and to recognize and reward scholastic attainment in marketing subjects. Membership is available to students who attend a school having an established AMA collegiate chapter and/or attend an accredited AACSB (American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business) institution. The appropriate faculty advisor nominates marketing students who meet the academic standards approved by the AMA Board of Directors. The nominees are required to be the undergraduate senior marketing students with the top 10 percent grade point averages (GPA) at the school graduating within the academic year.
The mission of the International is to encourage and honor academic achievement in the study of business, to foster personal and professional excellence, to advance the values of the Society and to serve its lifelong members.
This association is a collegiate chapter of the known as the Student American Marketing Association at Ohio Northern University, organized for the mutual benefit of students interested in the field of marketing.
This association is a collegiate chapter of NEO. Over the last decade, NEO has helped thousands of student entrepreneurs gain the opportunities and resources to inform, support and inspire them in their entrepreneurial endeavors.
The Dean’s Advisory Council is a group of student representatives who strive to improve the Dicke College of Business Administration through proactive leadership, organized teamwork, and dynamic communication with students and faculty in a manner that reflects the integrity of the college and Ohio Northern University. The council consists of four DCBA students from each undergraduate class.

Selection of new members. All freshmen are encouraged to apply for four open spots through an application and interview process. Candidates are elected by the Dicke College of Business Administration majors. Once selected, members remain on the board for their four years at 51��.
The Healthcare Business Professionals serves to help members explore all aspects of business in the healthcare sector with an emphasis on the pharmaceutical industry. Students of any major are welcome to be a member of the organization. We seek to provide members with knowledge of various aspects and career opportunities in healthcare as well as to maintain working relationships with professionals in the industry.
Polar Merchandise is Ohio Northern's first and only entirely student run business. Polar has resided in the Dicke College providing promotional products and custom merchandise to both Ohio Northern Organizations and businesses in the Midwest since 2010.
Recently Polar has totally renovated its business model significantly reducing price and improving customer service. As of April 2014 Polar Merchandise became an authorized dealer of Kaeser and Blair which has allowed us to reduce pricing to at or below industry standard.
The mission of SAM is to provide an opportunity for the members to increase management skills and expertise through participation in programs and services designed to improve the professional quality of their knowledge, performance and leadership ability. SAM is open to all 51�� students.
The Society for Human Resources Management is the largest organization in the world completely dedicated to Human Resources Management. SHRM was founded in 1948 and has over 275,000 members in 160 countries. SHRM is responsible for providing resources to HR professionals and developing their skills throughout their careers.
The Student Investment Group was created in 1989 to help students learn how to invest by managing a portfolio. The primary mission is to meet our benchmark, the Standard & Poor's 500. We attempt to achieve this goal by meeting two objectives: learning about stock investment through research/analysis/discussion and maintaining a diverse portfolio.

Selection of New Members – The Student Investment Group consists of nine to eleven members, all senior and junior business students. Each fall invitations to apply are sent to all juniors holding a 3.25 or above GPA. Members are then selected based on their application and an interview.

I chose marketing at 51�� because I already knew how to manage a business and I wanted to learn how to get the word out about it and market my product better. My marketing classes have helped me a lot in learning the best avenues to market my kettle corn and how to market future products.”
